We are a full-service veterinary hospital, offering the following services:
 |
Preventive health care
Here at Veterinary Medical Center, we believe that preventive care is the cornerstone of your pet's health and that a doctor-patient relationship must be kept current in order for us to recommend the most appropriate health plan for your dog or cat. Therefore, our doctors will insist upon examining your pet at least once a year, prior to administering vaccines or dispensing prescription medication. For pets in their golden years, we strongly recommend our senior wellness package on an annual basis. This specially-priced group of bundled services includes a physical exam, complete blood panel, urinalysis and glaucoma test. Based on annual physical exams and lab test results, our doctors will make appropriate recommendations for your pet's preventive health care needs such as vaccines, flea control, dental care and nutritional supplements.

General surgery
Our doctors are skilled at performing routine and non-routine soft tissue surgery. If needed, we can provide a referral to an appropriate specialist.
To ensure that your pet has a safe experience we routinely do the following:
- Perform exam prior to surgery
- Recommend pre-anesthetic blood tests
- Give pre-op sedation to minimize anxiety
- Electronically monitor pulse and blood oxygen levels throughout the procedure
- Use highest quality Isoflorane inhalation anesthetic
- Administer post-op pain medication as needed

Diagnostic Imaging
At some point in your pet's life, we may need to take x-rays (radiographs) as part of a diagnostic workup. We perform this service in-house, using short exposure times to limit your pet's exposure to the x-radiation. Our radiograph machine is tested periodically by a state agency to assure protection of your pet as well as our staff. Films are developed automatically in less than 90 seconds each and are permanently labeled in compliance with state and federal laws. In addition, we occasionally consult with outside radiology specialists to review particular cases if requested by our doctors.
A state-of-the-art ultrasound machine compliments our radiographic capabilities, and we are able to perform guided cystograms in-house.

Dental cleanings/extractions
Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. Our oral scaling and polishing procedures are performed under anesthesia for the safety and comfort of your pet, and to allow the doctor or dental hygenist to complete a detailed and thorough teeth cleaning and examination. At VMC, this process includes a thorough inspection and assessment of tooth root surfaces, tooth mobility, tartar below the gum line, and periodontal pockets. This is followed by extensive water flushing of the mouth to remove plaque and food particles. An ultrasonic scaler used to remove all tartar and calculus buildup on the teeth by ultrasonic action. A sterile rinse is then used to flush and clean the oral cavity and a fluoride paste is used to polish the teeth to help prevent plaque buildup.

Laboratory
Our vet technicians perform many laboratory tests in-house, including pre-anesthetic blood screening prior to surgical procedures. We also send samples to specialized diagnostic laboratories around the country. By selecting the appropriate lab for consultation, we ensure the best success in diagnosing and resolving your pet's particular problem. If your pet is required to come to VMC for lab tests, please check with our receptionists the day prior for specific instructions regarding food, water and medication administration as these factors may influence the outcome of certain tests. Be sure to ask when test results will be available, especially if specimens are sent to an outside lab.

Pharmacy
We have over 300 prescription products in our pharmacy. All dispensed medications are placed in child-proof containers and labeled as required by federal and state laws. If your pet needs to take a particular medication for many weeks, months or years, we'll ask you to bring your pet in for periodic blood and/or urine tests as required by law to verify dosages and organ functions.

Nutrition counseling
Proper diet is a fundamental piece of your pet's overall preventative health program. These days pets live longer, healthier lives than ever, thanks in part to advances in veterinary nutrition. Our doctors can help you plan an appropriate dietary regiment that takes your pet's weight, age, food allergies, digestive or other medical conditions into consideration.
|
 |
Behavioral counseling
Behavior problems can be particularly frustrating for pet owners. Behavior problems can manifest themselves in many forms, from mild problems such as jumping up on strangers to more serious conditions such as self-mutilation and separation anxiety. Diagnosing a behavior problem first means conducting a thorough physical examination to make sure the symptoms aren't related to a physical abnormality or medical condition. If behavioral counseling is warranted, we're happy to refer you to excellent trainers and counseling specialists.

Cancer treatment
For many forms of cancer, chemotherapy is a treatment option to prolong the life of your pet. We offer chemotherapy cancer treatment here at Veterinary Medical Center, usually on an outpatient basis. When your pet is faced with cancer, our doctors will also typically consult with or refer you to a veterinary oncologist to obtain the best possible medical outcome.

Boarding
When our clients have business out of town or need a vacation, they can board their pets here at VMC. Our indoor boarding facilities, including roomy runs and comfortable cages, are completely heated and air-conditioned. Each pet is walked several times daily and provided a blanket or pad to make its stay more comfortable. We will gladly accommodate special dietary requests. For the protection of our patients and staff, all boarding pets must have had an exam by one of our doctors within the past 12 months, be current on their vaccinations and be free of fleas and ticks. Boarding reservations are a must during the summer months and around major holidays, so please call early.

Grooming
To complement our veterinary and boarding services, we offer the following basic grooming services: shave downs/lion cuts, de-matting, clean up and flea baths, medicated baths, nail trims, anal gland expressions, ear cleaning, flea control and Softpaw applications. Baths and shave downs are done by appointment only from Monday through Friday; so please call ahead. These two services also require your pet to be here for an entire day, so you'll need to drop your pet off between 7:30 and 9:30am and pick up after 4:30 that same day.
